What is Mother Teresa most famous for?

She was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu on September 17th, 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia (then Yugoslavia). Her parents were Albanian Catholics who immigrated to India in search of work. In 1931, her family moved to Kolkata, where she attended St. Mary's School. At age 15, she entered the Sisters of Loreto convent in Darjeeling, India. There she studied philosophy and theology at St. Joseph's College, Darjeeling. After completing high school, she continued her studies at the University of Dublin, Ireland. She earned a bachelor's degree in English literature in 1934 and then went on to earn a master's degree in social work in 1936. She returned to India in 1937 and began working with lepers at the Lepers' Home in Bombay. In 1939, she founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious congregation devoted to serving the poor and sick. She became known as Mother Teresa after founding the Missionaries of Charity.

 


Mother Teresa died on 5 December 1997 in Kolkata, India. She had been suffering from kidney failure since 1995. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1985. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 2003.

 

Mother Teresa is best known for her work with the destitute and dying in Calcutta, India. She established homes for the homeless, orphanages, hospitals, schools, and soup kitchens. She worked tirelessly to help the poorest of the poor. She believed that God wanted us to love our neighbor as ourselves. She said, "I am not afraid of death. I have been dead for many years."

 

Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1980. She was the first woman to receive the award. She was honored for her efforts to alleviate poverty and suffering around the world.

 

Mother Teresa wrote several books including _The Journal of a Soul_, _To Be A Pilgrim_, _Love Is Our Business_, and _My Life_. She also published two autobiographies: _The Story Of My Heart_ and _Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light._

 

Mother Teresa was named the second-greatest person in history by Time magazine in 1999.

What did Mother Teresa do for India?

She gave them hope.

Mother Teresa was born in 1910 in what is now known as Albania. Her family moved to Skopje, Macedonia when she was young. In 1931, Mother Teresa entered the Sisters of Charity order and began her mission work in India. She arrived in Kolkata (then Calcutta) in 1948 and started working at the Missionaries of Charity. She gave them love.

Mother Teresa's message of love and compassion inspired millions around the world. She often said, “I am not here to change the world, I am here to save it.” Mother Teresa believed that God loved everyone equally, no matter who they were or where they came from. She taught people how to love others by showing them unconditional love herself.

 

She gave them education.

In 1950, Mother Teresa established the first school for girls in Kolkata. She wanted to give girls access to education and help them break out of poverty. Today, the Missionaries of Charity runs schools for both boys and girls throughout India.

 

She gave them healthcare.

Mother Teresa worked tirelessly to provide healthcare to those who couldn't afford it themselves. She opened homes for the elderly and sick, and set up clinics for free medical care. Many of these homes still operate today.

 

She gave them shelter.

Mother Teresa helped thousands of homeless families find safe places to live. She provided food, clothing, and medicine for anyone who needed it.

 

She gave them freedom.

Mother Teresa fought for women's rights and equal opportunities for men and women. She saw women as equals and didn't believe in discrimination.

 

She gave them peace.

Mother Teresa taught us to look beyond our differences and embrace each other. She encouraged us to treat everyone we meet as if they're our best friend. She taught us to pray for peace, even though we may have none ourselves.
