Future of Female
The complex problems that face our planet require all-encompassing
solutions. It is time to include the female component in the definition of
these solutions—better late than never, right? Wallonia-Brussels wishes to do
its fair share and establish a platform where women's perspectives from various
origins can be heard. Of course, the objective is not to pit women against the
male paradigm. Contrarily, we hold the view that "the whole is greater
than the sum of its parts".
We will work together to sketch out the future of work, leadership, and
inclusion in our global society. Let's get together and learn from the six
"ecosystems" we were able to bring to the stage: Startup, government
agency, and venture capital
When the word "feminism" was first used, people not only
raised their eyebrows but also imagined the end of the world. Even though we
have unquestionably come a long way, there is still debate over gender issues
and disparities.
The intriguing result of our research? People are hesitant to identify themselves as feminists in 2017. How come? Feminism no longer has any relevance? 'Feminist' is a word from the past, and today's hot topic is more likely to be a political conflict. However, we do anticipate that women will play a larger role in the future: Globally, 45% of Prosumers and 30% of the Mainstream concur that women will drive change in the future. In fact, a future with more women is preferable. 36 % of men and 46 % of women
WHO DECLARES THEMSELVES A FEMINIST?
Globally, just 31% of women and 17% of men identify as feminists. The
most common reason for our "aversion" to the word
"feminism" is the fact that it has turned into a contentious
political issue. The difference between progressive and conservative viewpoints
affects how we see the world. Taking the United States as an example, only 32%
of Republicans identify as feminists, compared to a staggering 64% of
Democrats. Despite this, more people of both sexes (46% of women and 34% of
men) agreed than disagreed that having more women in positions of authority
would make the world a better place.
THE POWER VS THE RIGHTS
Having rights does not automatically equate to having power;
internationally, 41% of men and 56% of women concur that women today have
rights but no real power. We acknowledge that there is still more work to be
done in terms of gender equality: Globally, 66% of Prosumers concur that there
aren't enough women in executive roles. In fact, only 4,2% of the top 500 US
corporations were led by women as of 2016. The perception of gender equality,
however, varies among cultures. Western nations are more inclined to agree that
gender equality is still a long way off, while those in Southeast Asia and the
Middle East are more likely to believe there is less of a problem.
Women care while men hunt
Globally, 42% of men and 45% of women concur that there can never be
full gender equality since the sexes are not equal. Is inequality perpetuated
by our inherent disparities or by a lack of representation in society? We
presented a list of 25 significant characteristics and features to our
respondents and asked them to indicate whether they thought each one applied
more to men, women, or both sexes equally. Although there were some differences
(our global total group agreed that women are more nurturing and sensitive and
males are more mechanical), overall we observed a significant overlap between
the sexes.
BUT WOMEN CAN BE ALPHA MALES AND BOYS DON'T CRY
Traditional notions and representations of femininity are questioned. A
woman can show her femininity in a variety of ways that don't always involve
wearing makeup, gowns, and high heels. In actuality, just 17% of men and 12% of
women worldwide concur that a woman who doesn't apply makeup isn't feminine
enough. Additionally, just 8% of women and 12% of men worldwide concur that a
woman is not feminine enough if she does not wear high heels. However, although
women are breaking free from conventional feminine stereotypes, men are still
constrained by them: A man should be macho, according to 67% of consumers
worldwide, and 46% of them believe that a man who
CHILDREN IN BOARDROOMS
Family comes first for everyone, men and women alike: Around the world, 73% of men and 72% of women concur that raising successful children is more essential than raising successful adults. Family is an important aspect of life, but what happens when we attempt to balance family and career? Women typically shoulder the responsibility of childcare, especially in less developed nations that lack policies to support working parents. Only 13% of women worldwide say they leave the majority of childcare to their spouse or partner, compared to 35% of men. And while men concur that having children comes before having a profession, 23% of them acknowledge that they occasionally cite work as a justification.
Conclusion: Embracing a Bright Future for Females Everywhere
In conclusion, embracing a bright future for
females everywhere is not just a noble goal, but a necessary one for the
progress and betterment of society as a whole. By empowering women and
providing them with equal opportunities and rights, we can unlock their full
potential and contribute to the advancement of various fields.
It is crucial to recognize the achievements and
contributions of women in all aspects of life, from politics to science,
business to arts. By promoting gender equality and creating inclusive
environments, we can foster innovation, creativity, and collaboration that will
benefit everyone.
Furthermore, it is important to address the
existing barriers that hinder women's progress. This includes combating gender
stereotypes, promoting education for girls in underserved areas, advocating for
equal pay and opportunities in the workplace, and supporting initiatives that
encourage female leadership.
By working together as a society to break down
these barriers and create an environment where females can thrive, we can
ensure a brighter future for all. Let us celebrate the achievements of women
today while continuously striving towards a world where every female has the
opportunity to reach her full potential. Together, we can create a future where
gender equality is not just an aspiration but a reality.
