Negative Thoughts
Part - I
Negative thoughts are thoughts that
we have about ourselves, others, and our environment. These thoughts are often
negative and can lead us down a path of self-doubt, fear, anger, and
depression. We may think something like “I’m not good enough”, “No one likes
me”, “I’ll never get what I want”, “People don’t care about me”, etc. When we
start thinking negatively, we begin to feel bad about ourselves and our
situation. We become unhappy and dissatisfied with our lives.
The first step to overcoming these
negative thoughts is to identify them. Once we know they exist, we can work
towards changing them. If we continue to think negatively, then we will
continue to feel bad about ourselves, which will only make things worse. So,
How do we change our thoughts?
We need to learn how to recognize
negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. Here are some tips to
help you overcome negative thoughts:
What causes your negative thinking?
Identify the thought.
It’s important to understand that
negative thoughts aren’t always obvious. Sometimes, we might not even realize
that we’re having them. To combat this, try to notice any negative thoughts
that pop into your head. Write them down if necessary. You can use a journal,
notebook, or text document.
Challenge the thought.
Once you’ve identified the negative
thought, challenge it. Ask yourself questions like “Is this true?”, “How could
I be wrong?”, Do I really believe this?, and “Why am I thinking this way?”. By
challenging the thought, you’re taking ownership over it and giving it less
power over you.
Replace the thought.
After you’ve challenged the negative
thought, replace it with a positive one. Try saying something like “This isn’t
true”, That makes sense”, I can handle this”, I’m glad I didn’t believe that”, I
love myself”, I deserve happiness”, I am worthy of success”, I will succeed”, I
have everything I need right now”, I trust my intuition”, I choose to be
happy”, I accept who I am”, I forgive myself”, Everything happens for a
reason”, I appreciate myself”, My mind is free”, I let go of the past”, I
release control”, I give up control”, There is nothing to worry about”, I take
responsibility”, I allow myself to be happy”.
By replacing the negative thought
with a positive one, you’re making a conscious decision to move away from
negativity and towards positivity.
Repeat the thought.
Repeat the thought until it becomes
automatic. After you’ve replaced the negative thought with a new positive one,
repeat it again. Say it out loud, write it down, or put it in your journal.
Keep repeating it until it feels natural.
Change your surroundings.
If you find yourself constantly
thinking negatively, it might be time to change your environment. Go outside,
sit in nature, or meditate. Doing anything that changes your environment can
help you focus on being grateful for what you already have instead of focusing
on what you don’t have.
